The official name for the Magic Truffle is “Sclerotium” (plural: “Sclerotia”).
On the spot where mushrooms grow there is a large network of mycelium in the ground. This mycelium is a fungus with a white, stringy structure. Under the right circumstances this mycelium will take care of the growth of mushrooms.
In essence, the mushroom is the fruit of the mycelium. Some species of mushrooms produce Magic Truffles in this mycelium. These Magic Truffles are a compact mass of hardened mycelium in which the species stores food and water to make use of when growing conditions are not optimal.
EU countries: Truffles are 100% legal in the Netherlands and can therefore be shipped to all EU countries under the Mutual Recognition of Goods Principle of the European Commission.
